Demo·Story Engine Blocks

Aesop Gallery Block

With the Gallery component, you can create up to six types of image galleries with optional captions or lightbox effects.

General Notes

The Aesop Gallery block itself has no settings, but the Story Engine plugin adds features to the standard WordPress Gallery post-type (Galleries are actually a special type of post).

Examples show various options of the gallery itself, rather than of the Gallery block, which served only to display the gallery in the post.

Developer Documentation

Official documentation is archived here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20190503012740/http://aesopstoryengine.com/help/gallery-component/

As with much of the official documentation, this page is out-of-date, unfortunately, and hasn’t been updated for the current Block implementation of the Aesop components.

Ignore the section “Insert Gallery Component”, and just use the Aesop Gallery block.

The rest of the documentation is accurate.

Examples

This is a gallery with the default Grid layout

  • Gallery has a caption set
  • Captions of images are displayed over the gallery image
  • Clicking an image will display it at a larger size in a “Lightbox”

In this gallery style, photos are laid out in a grid arrangement. The number of grid columns depends on the width of the browser window.

Images may be displayed at different sizes, if galleries have different numbers of images in them.

Because images in the gallery are resized according to their width, portrait-format images will appear much larger than landscape ones.

Your gallery will look much neater if all your images are of the same size, or at least the same aspect-ratio.

You can resize and crop images after they have been uploaded using WordPress’s non-destructive image-editing tools (see this tutorial).
